The characteristics of Gothic Architecture were researched and studied in person and photographed for reference. The most well known and lesser known Gothic sites in the city of London were recorded along with the date in which they were constructed. The approximate location of each site was taken note of and used on the cover.

RESEARCH

Illustrations were done of each main characteristic of the Gothic style as a visual representation. For the back of the zine I created an illustrated poster of Westminster Abbey as it is the most well known and beloved Gothic site in London. The colours yellow and blue were chosen specifically for the poster as the yellow represents the light meant to evoke the emotions one might have gazing upon the stained glass windows.

ILLUSTRATION

In order to follow the brief of creating a Risograph design using a two colour process that utilised the unique effects of Riso printers I self educated myself on Risograph printing. I studied Riso in a general sense, techniques such as registration and knockouts, and how to set up artwork for printing. I separated my illustrations into two layers for each colour using the multiply transparency to get a sense of what the design would look like when printed. I then exported the layer files into greyscale PDF’s. The colour blue was printed first allowing the ink to completely dry before printing the yellow.
